Abi Wheelan is a filmmaker and edit assistant working across documentary, factual, branded and digital content. With a particular focus on human connection, identity, and culture, her documentary-style work feels intimate yet never obtrusive, placing authenticity at the heart of every project.

The Hive - Short Portrait Documentary

Filmed in remote mountains of Northwestern Vietnam, The Hive explores themes of tradition, inherited knowledge, adaptation, education, family, place, and the relationship between people and nature — considering how we can move forward while remaining connected to where we come from.

Self-directed, shot, and edited with the support of local Hmong translators, the project reflects her interest in sharing unique perspectives and connecting people across cultures. The film offers an observational glimpse into a way of life shaped by family, tradition and a deep connection to the natural environment.
